Turkish lamps

Last spring in Turkey I took tons of photographs of the lamp stores in the market. These rounded shapes of stained glass and the colorful light produced from them, seemed enchanting to me. I've been keeping several of these photos on my desk, not knowing how to approach them in painting. It was time to try.

    Wow Blaga, what a difficult subject, but I can see what attracted you. Your two paintings are absolutely fabulous! The contrast of the light of the lamps and the beautiful darks is fantastic!

    These lamps are awesome , just one of them would really set the mood in a room . Well, I suppose you wouldn't put more than one in each room anyway, but you know what I mean :-)) You really painted them well, two great watercolors. xx

    Thank you, Judy! I only painted a small section of the whole subject that impressed me, and it is greatly simplified. Maybe I'll return to it again some time.

    I really like these two paintings -- they captured the warm, magic glow of these lanterns very well, and creating the illusion of light is hard! I am attempted to give it a try myself -- perhaps painting a scene of Chinese lanterns?... ;-)
