Reflections 2

Painting is a true cure for the blues. For a long time I was finding it hard to get myself to grab the brushes, and the longer I didn't do it, the worse I felt. But over the holidays the vicious circle broke. I seem to have found a self-feeding drive to create. No doubt Venice, this inspirational subject helps.

Venice - the ideal subject for artists - character, colors, light, water... So attractive, yet so rich and complex. But when you look at some paintings of masters, like Sargent, you realize  how skillfully they simplified it. I can only keep trying, and of course, enjoying the process...

As beautiful as Venice is, it seems daunting to paint with all the colors and intricate shapes. So I am starting off with a couple of scenes where the buildings are in back-light and thus their details can be omitted.
