It has been a wonderful Sunday morning, sitting in the backyard, painting flowers. Beautiful weather, quiet and peaceful...
I painted these peonies while waiting for another piece to dry. Did them quickly, without drawing and they turned out much better than the other painting, which I planned and drew. Isn't this typical!?

Lovely one!
Hi Blaga so busy lately with a new pup and finishing the school year. Let the summer begin!Great Peonies, aren't they the most difficult! You are right sometimes intuition has to take over and leave the drawing behind. Great painting.happy summer
Hi Blaga. I have been "trained" in never sketching before starting to paint, so this is what I do. Sometimes I try to sketch first just to see what happens, but I must say that without sketching the result is more free , you just let the brush go where you feel like instead of following traces already made. And these Peonies are really beautiful ...I like them starting from the corner like they were reaching out .
Big hug.
More free and spontaneous with no prior drawing, it's normal. No line flange our brush strokes. I painted from time to time without sketch just to see what will appear
Your peonies are beautiful
Beautiful peonies! I like the composition! Maybe with the first painting you were getting to know the flowers, so you could do without prior drawing in the second one.
Glad you liked it, Anonymous
Cathy, thank you for taking your attention away from the puppy to write me a comment. Happy summer to you! Now you should have more time for painting too.
Jane, the composition of the peonies turned out this way because I didn’t plan it. It is a bit unusual, but I found it also intriguing. Thank you for the comment and for the insight to your process of working.
Lydie, it is more spontaneous without drawing. And it also gives me the feeling that I am not working on something very important – so it removes the stress. Thank you for your comment!
Thank you, Judy! Actually, the first painting was a different flower, a foxglove, which I painted too deliberately, with much fiddling, and I am going to try again.
absolutely fantastic paintign!such a dreamy atmosphere!
