The library at Ephesus

Library at Ephesus, Arches, 36 x 28 cm
Here is another site from my Turkish tour. Ephesus must be the most visited place in Turkey, and the facade of the library - it's most beautiful structure.

This was a pretty complex subject and while drawing it, I was thinking "This has to turn out well, as I am not drawing it again!"  And then, of course, forget looseness and spontaneity... So, the bottom line, I don't much enjoy complex architectural subjects. They are a challenge, but not the type of challenge, from which I learn. Not for now, at least...

A difficult subject! People came great! The buildings are solid! A watercolor that perfectly illustrates the place! Congratulations, Blaga!

This may not be your favorite subject , but you did it VERY well, love the subdued coloring of this and all the tourist pointing and photographing, well done !

Wow, Blaga, this is lovely! It's clearly a complex structure to draw but you have handled that so well. The colours of the stone are perfect and you added some super figures too! I really do like this - Fabulous work!

Thank you, Rita! I focused on getting the proper values in the building and that paid off.

Thank you, Jane! It was a fun game picking figures from my photos, that would best fit the scene, and positioning them in the right spot :)

I appreciate you nice comment, Michael! I do like the way it turned out, but it took a long time and is not a step towards the looser, more free style I am after.

That's true, Judy, architecture with its straight lines and strict proportions, and in this case, all the details... Beautiful, but tedious to depict. Thank you!

Peut-être tu a de la raison, Isabelle, je pense que j'ai fait un travail pas mal. Mais le résultat n'était pas assez bonne pour me faire aimer le sujet. Merci beaucoup!

I am glad I took you there, Sergio! Thank you!

Hi Blaga, in my opinion you have painted a fantastic watercolor. I think this is one of the most difficult works I have seen through the various blogs. You have to proud to have painted it. Great job!! Ciao.

Un buen trabajo Blaga. Los temas de arquitectura suelen ser aburridos, pero en este caso con la combinación con las figuras que has introducido, la escena tiene vida y dinamismo. Un abrazo

Hi, Blaga,
Wonderful composition, accurate lines, well organized values and beautiful colours.
I'm sure you can teach me how to do it, this architecture allergy girl!
Kind regards, Sadami
