Two portraits

I did pencil drawings for these a couple of weeks ago. They are both based on black-and-white photographs, so I had to use imagination for the colors. On the top one I regret making the ribbon on the hat so dark, as it shifts the attention away from the face. Yet, I was proud when my mom said, that the lady does resemble her mother. Now, if she finds similarities of the bottom picture and her daughter, I'll be triumphant...

They are both wonderful portraits! I love the colors you used, particularly in the bottom one. They make the portraits "alive". Beautiful, Blaga!

Hi Blaga. I agree with Judy - two lovely portraits. I can see a family resemblance :-) You ought to do one of your mom too to complete the series! The skin tones are excellent.

You know Blaga , I actually see quite a resmblance with you on the top one, but either way they are both very good and full of expression. XX

These portraits are beautiful, very sensitive. I love the child and the blue shadows under the rim of the hat of the woman. Just a quick note: for your future portraits bears your attention to the spacing of the eyes and it will be perfect.

Thank you, Judy! The bottom one I started as a draft, without pencil drawing and any planning, using whatever colors there were on the palette. Hence, the looser look. I like it too :)

Merci beaucoup, Isabelle, pour ton commentaire encourageant.

Thank you, Michael! Actually, my mother refuses to recognize me in the child portrait, and advised me to try again. Well, she’s always been a very demanding parent... so I’ll have to get better :)

Thank you, Jane! Heh, I now notice that on my picture I’m smiling in a similar way...

Thank you, Lydie, for the nice comments and for the advice. yes, I’ve been noticing how very slight changes or shifts in the eyes area affect the whole expression and personality of the face.

Beautiful portraits, both of these. I really like the way you've let the color mingle and do its own thing, that takes a brave heart to do that! Glad I found your blog. :)

I like very much the kind and shining expression in the second portrait. They both are so warm. You do great with watercolor. I specially like the "imagination for the colors" thing.

Thank you, Irina! I painted the second one just for fun, and it showed :)
