Tulip Explosion

Tulip explosion, watercolor on Langton Prestige paper, 56 x 33 cm
Tulips, first wash, free hand sketching
When I started this composition a few days ago, I was just trying to simplify painting a tulip with a single color. So I put all these tulips on the paper and left it there. Today, before continuing, I took a picture, as I liked that first wash and wasn't sure where to go from there. Added some directional background and more definition in the central flowers, which gave the painting a focus.I like it, but I still find that initial wash quite attractive.

I think that wash is very beautyful too! The finished painting is also very pretty.Very soft smooth color.
Your tulips inspire me, I think I will paint one more tulip painting :)

oh I love this Blaga - I love the flowers at this time of year - my crocuses and daffodils have been buried in the snowfall - not sure if they'll come back but hoping the tulips will come through!

Thank you for your nice comment, Catharina! Now is the time to paint tulips!

Don't worry, Sharon, the spring bulbs are though soldiers, they survive the occasional April snowfall. Thank you for your comment!

That first wash is really good, Blaga, and I love the finished painting too! Tulips look so simple and are so hard to paint. Your painting inspires me to paint some more tulips!

Très belle profusion de tulipes qui semblent émerger de la feuille. Les deux versions sont belles.

That first wash is soooo clever and so freely painted. The final burst of colours is lovely too.

C'est vraiment très beau et c'est très sympathique d'avoir l'étape avec juste les tulipes.

Dear Rita, I think the comment you posted in "Colors of the sea" was meant for here.
"I also often photographing my direct work on the wet, I wondered why I liked it better before than after ...
To this question I have found a possible answer, for me, when I noticed the work of Jane Minter( in her blog that illustrates the various steps of direct techniques) a possible solution.
My new insight is that background that I have the tendency to paint at last, maybe ,as Jane, should be done first and built to that the true subject,on the background, seems a gem in the jewel.
What do you think about?"
I think you have a point, Rita. It seems much better if the background evolves with the whole painting. If it is treated as an integral part of it, not a separate piece, not an aforethought. That's harder to do as you have to work fast and consider a thousand things happening at the same time. Thank you, for making me think about that!
