Another walk in Sofia

Cafe by the Theatre, watercolor 38 x 28 cm
Boulevard Ruski in Sofia, watercolor 28 x 38 cm
There are some really beautiful old buildings in Sofia, which I have been noticing more lately. The cafe in the park in front of the National Teatre has this typical European atmosphere, which one cannot find here, in Canada. For some reason, ambiance is not a priority for the cafes and restaurants here. I like the character of the European cities and that's why I enjoy painting these city scenes.

Bisous !

Thank you, Polly!
Thank you, Lydie!
The centre of Sofia has some beautiful areas, where I love going for a walk on a Sunday. In the last decade the city became so crowded, that one has to avoid it in the rush-hour. But that's the story of every larger city, isn't it?

Abbraccio.

Your cityscapes are getting more and more beautiful, Blaga. They are both magnificent, with a beautiful warm summer feel. Sofia must be a wonderful city, thank you for the tour!

The before and after Alvaro Castagnet is striking, your works have become so much richer , detailed and I think quite difficult, but you paint anything with enormous skill . Really love these works !

You have found some lovely spots to paint there! Well done!

Dear Blaga, I see what you mean ... when I go around Europe there are corners that look alike from Northern and Southern Italy to ... Warsaw. , from Barcelona.. to Sophia, as you show in your beautiful watercolors.
Sometimes they are just the same architectural structures because the architects have always traveled and the mode of construction have spread from the Renaissance to
The eighteenth to the Liberty. Wonderful is your commitment on this issue and always rich, your accomplishments!

Ciao Blaga,
Ormai riesci a rendere atmosfere davvero affascinanti.
acquerellisti.
Ho sentito che forse viene in Italia, a Padova: Sai qualcosa?
Ciao, a presto, abbracci, Floriana

Thank you, Tito! I wasn't sure how the one with the umbrellas was turning out till the end. Then I looked at it and thought "Wow, not bad at all!"

Thank you, Judy! I love places in the city with character and nice ambiance and I've always wanted to be able to depict that atmosphere. I now feel way more confident in that.

Gracias Mercedes! Me alegro de que te gusten!

I'm so glad you see such a difference, Jane! Alvaro's workshop gave me some "tools" and techniques and also thought me what's important to look for and emphasise. I'm actually putting much less detail in the paintings now, but the big value contrast and the combination of wet and dry brush where appropriate, makes it look like there is much more in the painting. Thank you!

Thank you, Catharina! I've been going through my old photos and picking scenes with nice atmosphere and good light in them, that are appropriate for this style.

Thank you, Sadami! Yah, you are funny!

Dear Rita, there is much beautiful old architecture in Europe, but also people make the most of it, by placing nice cafes and restaurant patios at these locations. So they can sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Here, in Ontario, if you want to have a beer outside, you will be sitting in a fenced area on the side-walk of a busy and noisy boulevard.

Gracias Beatriz!

Gracias Sonia!

Just keep an eye on Alvaro's calendar, he may come over to your area soon: http://www.alvarocastagnet.net/events/upcoming/

Unexpectedly beautiful impression of a city cafe -
at least for one, living in a town of so many
and various looks and feels
(not to exclude the European ones).

Sono molto belle questa scene di città. Sei bravissima

Thank you, Sherry, for visiting and for the nice comment!

Thank you, Linda from beautiful Montreal!

Thank you, Popokatepetl! In your comment I can detect some mixed feelings about the beauty of the city. Well, one of the motivations for painting is that you can make things the way you want them to be :)
