Toronto's Flatiron building

Toronto's Flatiron Building, watercolor 40 x 52 cm
One of Toronto's iconic landmarks, still looking the way it did 120 years ago, although now surrounded by a forest of high-rises. Its real name is the Gooderham building, after the name of it's original owner. Flatiron is a description of its shape. There are a number of those in North America and around the world. Toronto's is one of the earlier examples and is quite prominent and attractive in its setting.

Thank you for a lovely work in an interesting post, caring Blaga. The Gooderham building looks slender and gorgeous. Your colour use is very beautiful. "Enjoy" watercolour painting!! Best wishes, Sadami

An interesting building, Blaga. And a great painting, I love the way you painted the buildings in the background. And I love the row of parked cars!

Thank you, Sadami! I wanted to do it in a more loose style, similar to the charcoal sketch, but the large size of the paper put pressure on me and I started fussing. Maybe I should try it again. i like the subject.

Thank you, Judy! In reality the building does pop up quite well on the greyish background. I emphasised that effect, of course. Cars have always been difficult for me. It's hard to get their proportions right and to simplify them. I'm glad these turned out well.

Hola Blaga. Bella pintura, me agrada la sensación de lejanía de los edificios traseros dando importancia al edificio que luce muy bien. Saludos!!!
