Red peonies

Arches, 40 x 30 cm
My goal was to paint this loose, with the focus on value and contrast. And I'm not unhappy with the result...

Looks great! Red is a difficult color in watercolor and for a value study.

And you are right in not being unhappy Blaga, I would say you should be very happy with this watercolor , it is simply stunning! All the white you kept really enhances the flowers and the shadow you made are delicate and perfect! Maybe my favorite till now. xx

Prabal, thank you so much for visiting and for your comment!

Thank you, Judy! I found a nice transparent quinacridone red "Rose Dore", which is the same bright red as cadmium, without the opacity. This helps me to stay away from creating mud a bit longer. (BTW I use mostly Da Vinci paints, as I find it hard to justify the double price for W&N)

Thank you very much for your feedback, Yves!

Jane, I think that this one was influenced by your floral paintings. So double thank you! :)

Thank you, Maria!

Barbara, the 3D effect was one of my main goals so I'm very glad to read your feedback. Thank you for the comment and for joining my blog!

Thank you, Lydie!
