Gates of Andalucia

Gates of Andalucia, watercolor, 42 x 32 cm
These two gates were not on the same street, not even in the same town, but I like them together.
I tried this subject a number of times. Initially without pencil drawing, which was a disaster, as everything was ending up crooked and disproportionate. Then, with a drawing, it was turning out like a paint-by-the-number thing. In the end I liked this result with the distinct directional brushstrokes and putting the colors on the paper instead of pre-mixing them. I would like to try a bit looser style next, maybe...

This is beautiful, Blaga, what a great subject! It seems to me it is hard to paint architectural subjects, let alone in a loose way. I like the way you used the colours!

I think they look great the way they are. Architectural works definitely are a bit tedious.

That's true, Judy, it's hard to paint architectural subjects loosely. Defining well the contours and shapes though, gives you some freedom afterwards. Thank you, for your comment!

Gracias, José, me alegro mucho de que te guste!

Thank you, Asit! Yes, it is tedious to get the drawing right, and hard not to get buried into the details afterwards.

Ciao,
Ciao, abbracci, Floriana

Ciao, Floriana, i tuoi commenti sono sempre i benvenuti, grazie!

Thank you, Polly!

Thank you, Jane, I had the feeling that the two doors would keep each other company :)

Always I photograph the doors, but I have not painted yet!
I admire these doors of Andalucia and the light that shines on them, so special!

Dear Blaga:)You choose very difficult but original subject. Especially the one on the right side is lovely! Well done:)

You can certainly draw Blaga but I agree it would be nice to see this in a looser style like your previous flower paintings which I love.
