Daffodils, watercolor 28 x 38 cm |
There was a pot of small daffodils on my table, waiting to be painted. I've always found it hard to paint yellow flowers. I had to exaggerate the orange of the little "trumpets" to give the flowers some dimension. I cannot wait for all the spring bulbs to start blooming in the yard...

My dear Blaga ,your daffodils are fresh and bright, very well done!
Each painter gives a different recipe to create the values in the yellow, which by its nature has not sides "dark." Someone suggests violet, someone suggests the green transparent as the Veronese green, many suggest the clear transparent brown, other quinacridone gold. You are perfectly succeeded ,with your oranges,in the difficult task to darken the yellow!
They definitely have great dimension with the trumpets, Blaga! Daffodils are so difficult to paint, I think orange is the right colour for value in yellow.
You did a good job Blaga .... The orange centers work well
Really lovely Blaga, daffodils are so difficult to paint ( for me ) , but these seem so effortless !
Hola Blaga: Hermosos narcisos, aunque son muy dificiles de realizar. ¡¡Felicitaciones!!!
Un joli bouquet qui annonce le printemps. Bises.
Getting the right amount of yellow in a painting can make or break it. You did a great job.
You are right, Rita, there are many ways to give dimension to yellow. I suppose the best one depends on the light of the scene, the subject and the mood you are trying to create. One has to experiment... Thank you, for your comment!
Thank you, Judy! I love yellow flowers but they have always been a bit of a challenge
Thank you Jane Minter and Jane Moller! Daffodils must be long passed in your part of the world already :)
Gracias, Mercedes!
Merci beaucoup, Lydie!
Hi, Blaga, lovely work, really! Beatutiful.
Cheers, Sadami
