Robin, watrecolor sketch |
And talking about birds, recently I saw in National Geographic the most beautiful watercolors of birds. They were by an artist named Karl Martens. I looked him up and found that he paints exclusively birds. You can see some of his paintings here.

Buongiorno Blaga, davvero delizioso il tuo Pettirosso. Grazie per l'interessante link. Un abbraccio.
This Robin is lovely and thanks for sharing the link.
Thank you, Poly, the world starts to look good again when spring approaches
Grazie, Tito! Pettirosso, ora so il suo nome in italiano :)
Thank you, Asit!
I'm glad you finally got spring over there too , such a pleasure to see the little robins. Love your painting , and interesting link !
Ciao Blaga
it's true, the spring is here, but
like your little bird it is , sometimes cold enough!
Very nice your work and beatiful colours!
Ciao, abbracci, Floriana
Funny ! Here (in France) robins are birds of winter and we paint them on our christmas cards...
So fresh. ....lovely
That is incredibly sweet!
Thank you, Jane! Yes, Robins and snowdrops too. Snowdrops must be a distant memory for you by now...
Thank you, Floriana! I would trade a cold spring for an endless winter any time :)
Anne, you are right that the European robin stays through the winter. The American species migrates south, but are the first to return. They also differ in size and appearance.
Thank you, Jane!
Thank you, Sonia!
The Robin is so cute in your watercolor and I am happy that spring has arrived from you too.
Essential and dramatic, the birds portraiture of Martens.
Have nice week end,dear Blaga!
Your robin is lovely. They are a sign of spring here too. Today I saw one singing his heart out on a branch nearby. Such a beautiful song. Have a great day.
Hola Blaga: Hermoso pajarillo realizado con soltura y delicadeza. Saludos!!!!
A wonderful robin! I am so glad spring has finally arrived in your part of the world! Thank you for the link, what a great paintings. I clicked on a link to a video.. did you see the size brushes he uses... wow!
It feels great to have warmer weather, Ritta, I even did some gardening today, couldn't wait :) What amazed me in Martens' watercolors is with how little brushstrokes he creates these birds. Yes, essential would be a good word.
Thank you, Debbie! You are right, these first bird songs are so beautiful. Everything about spring seems so beautiful!
Gracias, Mercedes!
Judy, thank you for mentioning the video, I had missed it and am so glad you pointed it out. I was wondering how he creates these fresh washes, as if by a single brushstroke in this large scale. I imagined he had to be working very fast and with a large brush. It was very interesting to see it.
Oh, Blaga, so cute!
Cheers, Sadami
